When I first discovered the purse hook about 3 years ago I thought, “this is silly, do I really need this?” I was so intrigued by this innovative invention that I bought one anyway. As I sat down at restaurant after restaurant, I realized how useful the purse hook really is. When there was not an available seat at the table for my purse- I used the hook. Then, I started using it even when there was a seat available. I had easy access to my purse if I needed something and I was able to keep an eye on it.
I have heard several women say, “my purse is nothing special, if I ever get an expensive purse then I will use a purse hook.” While I can understand this mentality, my response is always this, “Did you know that one of the most unsanitary places is the bottom of a woman’s purse? Next to airplane bathrooms of course.” I often see a light bulb go off and women realize where they put their purse; the bathroom floor, a sticky bar table, dirty restaurant floors. Would you put your shoe on your kitchen table? Probably not- but you’d put your purse on it. Purses are often touching the same surfaces as our shoes but yet we don’t realize how dirty they really are.
Picture this: You walk into a restaurant. You sit down and try to decide where to put your purse. The back of the chair is rounded and there are no available chairs, so you put your purse on the floor in between your legs. When the waiter delivers your diet coke, she spills it. She apologizes and asks if any got on you. You don’t seem to have any on your clothing and tell her not to worry. You need to use the restroom and you grab your purse from the floor. You notice a few stains from the spilled diet coke but decide to try and clean it later. You walk into a bathroom stall and check for a hook on the back of the door. No hook, and no ledge to rest your purse. Should you hold it while you do your business? No, you put in on the floor. Then you need to wash your hands, you place your purse on the sink counter and realize it was wet. After you wash your hands you grab some paper towels to dry your purse off. You return to your table, sit down, and put your purse back on the floor in between your legs.
Your purse was splashed with diet coke, covered with filth from the bathroom floor, absorbed dirty water from the sink counter and returned to sit on a sticky floor.
Now lets try this one: You walk into a restaurant. You sit down and pull out your purse hook. You hang your purse on the table next to you. When the waiter delivers your diet coke she spills it. She apologizes and asks if any got on you. You check yourself and see nothing, check your purse and see nothing. Hooray! You need to use the restroom and grab your hook and your purse. You walk into the bathroom stall and check for a hook on the back of the door. No hook, and no ledge to rest your purse. You pull out your purse hook and hang it from the top of the door. Voila! Instant purse hook. You finish your business and wash your hands. You hang your purse on the sink counter while you wash and dry. You grab your purse and hook and return to your table. You sit down, hang your purse on the hook, slide the hook on the table and join in on the conversation!
Your purse was saved from diet coke, bathroom floor filth, dirty sink water and a sticky floor.
That, my friends, is why people really need a purse hook.
