A passport is a document, issued by a national government for the purpose of international travel, which certifies the identity and nationality of its holder. The document includes information such as name, date of birth, sex, and place of birth. Due to increased security measures, new passport requirements were implemented for the United States. The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), requires all citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer’s identity and nationality to enter or depart the United States from within the Western Hemisphere*. This requirement applies to all methods of travel; air, land or sea. Before this new regulation was in place, American travelers were simply required to present a drivers license or a birth certificate to cross North American borders.

Although the US Government does not provide an official number, an estimated 20% of Americans possess a passport. In 2008 over 16 million passports were issued to American citizens.* Authorities expect the passport will help with a smoother transition through customs and enhance border security.

The clutch purse dates back all the way to the early 1800’s. Originally referred to as “reticules,” this clutch style purse was used by ladies to carry their handkerchief, smelling salts and rice papers for blotting the face. During World War II, the clutch purse increased in popularity due to the low manufacturing cost and minimalist lifestyle.

Today, there are thousands of clutch styles available. One in particular is called the clutch wallet. The clutch wallet is a flat rectangular shape designed to be used either as a clutch or as a wallet in a larger handbag. Since the clutch wallet is the perfect size for opera glasses, it has commonly been referred to as an “opera wallet” or “flat wallet.”

SilverHooks recently moved offices to Columbus, Ohio. (My family moved as well) and we are very happy with it. We are in a great location and the post office is close by. Which is great for you since I can mail packages quickly and easily!

I was out to lunch today and noticed how many women do not know what to do with their purse when they sit down to eat. Most of the women I saw put them on the floor and others hung them on the back of their chair. If there was a seat available they put it on the chair next to them. I felt like walking around the place and handing a business card to each and every one of them.

The purse hook is such a simple and convenient solution. So pass the word on ladies, and help your fellow woman!

Today I spent some time researching new products. What do you think about a sunglass case that doubles as a wallet? Say you need to run out to the grocery store and only need your wallet and sunglasses. Would it be helpful to have a case for that?

I am also working on cell phone straps in some good colors and designs. It should help you find your cell phone easily in your purse and maybe hang on your wrist when you don’t have your purse on you.

I found some cool business card cases that can also hold credit cards. I’m thinking it would be good for a night out. You can put your ID, credit card and some cash in it and not have to bring a bulky wallet.

I’m also looking into pill boxes. They are much more stylish and the pills don’t shake around in your purse.

We are experiencing a bit of a problem with one of our hooks. I call it the floating martini hook and although it looks so cute, it has been breaking incredibly easily. I am very disappointed as the hook is so cute and a lot of women are loving it. Luckily we also have the rhinestone martini hook that is very durable and also so cute. Here is a picture of our martini hooks. The pink one is the floating martini and the martini glass is the rhinestone martini. They add a bit of personality anywhere you go and they are sparkly. (And who doesn’t like sparkly, right?)

This is all a learning process. We try something and it doesn’t work so we move on to something else. The floating martinis are still for sale. Hopefully they wont be too much of a bust. If anyone wants to buy a bunch of them let me know, we could work something out.
